It’s funny how we pick up beliefs along the way, like finding a crutch when we’ve hurt our leg, something to lean on when things get shaky or painful, and that’s okay, it’s part of healing, but then the leg gets better, the pain fades, and you’re meant to walk on your own again, yet so many of us keep holding onto that crutch long after we need it, carrying it everywhere, letting it define how we move through the world, and these beliefs, especially the big ones about life and purpose and what’s out there, they can become like a small, comfortable room we refuse to leave, where everything is already labeled and answered, and if someone suggests opening the door to look outside, they’re called lost or wrong, and we stay inside, safe but maybe a little stuck, not seeing what’s right here, right now, in this life we’re actually living.
So then I wonder, if we were to finally step outside that room, if we put down all the things we’ve been told we are—the beliefs, the ideas, the stories about ourselves and the world—what would be left, who is the one standing there without any of it, before the thoughts even start about who you should be, that’s what I find myself asking lately, not as a puzzle to solve with more ideas, but just as a quiet question to sit with, because I had a moment once where everything felt clear, like waking up from a long dream, and it was so simple, but then even calling it an experience or an awakening seems to miss the point, because it’s not something you gain, it’s more like remembering something you always knew, deep down, beneath all the noise.
And that’s the thing, this knowing isn’t really mine or yours, it’s just here, in everyone, a quiet presence that doesn’t need a name or a system to be true, so I’m not here to give answers or be any kind of guide, I just feel like talking about this, about what happens when we stop leaning on the old crutches and stand up straight, to feel the ground under our own feet, to look around without the old maps, and ask, honestly, then who are we, without all of that, what is this, right here, before we call it anything, I’d really like to hear what you think, or if you’ve ever wondered the same thing, how it feels to just be, without the story.
